What is Youth Ministry?
-It is the response of the Christian family to the needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth
with the wider community.
How do I join St. Genevieve Youth Ministry (SGYM)?
-A person is automatically a member by virtue of their baptism. All you have to do is show up during one of our gatherings...Don't
be shy!
Is SGYM only for people who go to St. Genevieve Elementary / High School?
- No. Currently most active SGYM volunteers come from different schools (public/private) around the San Fernando Valley
area, and colleges/universities in the State of California.
What is the difference between a "youth group" and "youth ministry"?
-In simple terms, youth group is just like a club where activities evolve around its leader. Without its leader, the
group fades away. Youth Ministry is about empowering everyone to lead outward, making everyone an active participant during
the process. Youth ministry, at its best, is characterized by the following five hallmarks:
- Discipleship
- Connection
- Giftedness and growth
- Comprehensiveness
- Entire church (parish) involvement
