St. Genevieve Confirmation
Process: A Unique Approach
Modular- There
are 4 modules in which the confirmation candidate must participate: Catechesis, Service,
Prayer & Worship, Community Life (Building).
I.
Catechesis – Classes are classified into Faith
Themes. Candidates will choose their first themed session during their orientation day. One themed session will last 5 to
6 meetings. After the 6th session, the Candidate will then choose & go to a new Faith Themed class. Candidates
must choose at least 3 Faith Themes during the 2 year process, but an experimental process through the Candidate prepares
himself/herself for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The
Faith Themes are: Revelation, The Trinity, Jesus Christ, The Church, Morality, Sacraments,
Kingdom of God,
Catholic Social Teachings, Liturgical Year.
II.
Service Projects
“So
also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” – James 2:17
Our goal as Catholic
Christians is to have faith that is alive! Candidates will be trained to create, lead & participate in a variety of service
projects during their Confirmation process. Parents & Sponsors will assist in the Candidate’s service projects.
Candidates must fulfill 3 Service Projects before applying to be admitted into the Immediate Preparation for Confirmation
Session.
Service projects
are substantial participation in a project that directly impacts other persons in a positive way such as feeding the hungry,
attending to the elderly & infirmed, being mindful of orphans & the poor.
III. Worship
& Retreats
Candidates are
required to attend the Parish Youth Mass after each Faith Themed meeting. The Youth Mass is every Sunday at 11:00am, in the
main Church. Candidates may receive credit in this module by participating at this Mass as an usher/greeter, reader and/or
a member of the Youth Mass Liturgy Planning Team. The Candidate must fulfill at least 3 Liturgical or Worship activities before
applying to be admitted into the Immediate Preparation for Confirmation Session.
Each year of
the two-year process, the Candidate participates in a Retreat.
IV
Community Life
Community Building
Activities include summer beach trips, amusement park trips, participation at the Parish Fiesta, fundraising activities to
mention just a few. Each candidate must fulfill at least 3 Community Building Activities before applying to the Pastor to
be admitted as an official candidate for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Immediate
Preparation for Confirmation Session (IPC) – Sacramental Stage.
This session
occurs on the Candidate’s 2nd Year. It is an intensive period of study, prayer, reflection & retreat.
Sponsors play an important part in this period.
The Candidates,
after satisfactorily fulfilling all the requirements from each module, will write a personal letter to the Pastor outlining
all that he/she has completed & giving the reason why she/he wishes to be admitted into the Immediate Preparation for
Confirmation Session.
The IPC session
is a six-week process exploring what it means to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Topics include the following: What
are the gifts of the Holy Spirit? How these gifts relate to the Candidate’s Christian life on a daily basis? How are
these nourished in the Candidate’s Christian Life?
It is within
this period that the Candidate also participate at an intension Retreat exploring, praying, reflecting on what it means to
Receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
In the Spring
session, the Candidate and his/her sponsor participate in special gatherings followed by the Rite of Scrutinies during the
3rd, 4th (5th) Sundays of Lent.
